What Is The Difference Between I-steel And H-steel

Jun 04, 2022

1、 Different nature

I-steel: long steel with I-shaped section.

H-section steel: it is an economic section steel with more optimized area distribution and more reasonable strength weight ratio. Its cross-section is the same as the English letter "H".

2、 Different classification

1. I-beam classification:

(1) I-beam is mainly divided into ordinary I-beam, light I-beam and wide flange I-beam.

(2) According to the height ratio of flange to web, it is divided into wide, medium and narrow flange I-steel. The specifications of the first two products are 10-60, that is, the corresponding height is 10-60 cm. At the same height, the light I-beam has narrow flange, thin web and light weight. Wide flange I-beam, also known as H-beam, is characterized by parallel legs and no slope inside the legs.

It is an economical section steel, which is rolled on a four high universal mill, also known as "universal I-beam". Common I-beam and smooth I-beam have formed national standards.

2. H-beam classification:

(1) According to the flange width of the product, it is divided into wide flange, middle flange and narrow flange H-shaped steel. The flange width b of medium wide flange H-shaped steel is greater than or equal to the web height h, and the flange width b of narrow flange H-shaped steel is about half of the web height H.

(2) It can be divided into H-shaped steel beam, H-shaped steel column, H-shaped steel pile and H-shaped steel beam with extremely thick flange according to product use. Sometimes, H-shaped steel also includes parallel leg channel steel and parallel flange T-shaped steel. Generally, narrow flange H-shaped steel is used as beam material, and wide flange H-shaped steel is used as column material, so it is also called beam H-shaped steel and column H-shaped steel.

(3) According to the production mode, it is divided into welded H-section steel and rolled H-section steel.

(4) It is divided into large, medium and small H-shaped steel according to size. Generally, products with a web height h of more than 700 mm are called large products, 300-700 mm are called medium products, and products with a web height h of less than 300 mm are called small products. By the end of 1990, the height of the largest H-shaped steel web in the world was 1200 mm, and the flange width was 530 mm.
